4 years agoNew York Yankees relief pitcher Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless inning with no baserunners allowed and two strikeouts against the Blue Jays on Monday. Two poor outings from earlier this season have pushed Ottavino’s ERA up to 6.06 for the season even with Monday’s strong performance, but his swinging-strike rate is down at 8.5%, in part because of a pitch-mix adjustment that’s seen him feature his sinker at the expense of his cutter. Still, Ottavino has now strung together four straight scoreless appearances with five strikeouts over his last 3.2 innings, and he should continue to be an upper-tier relief pitcher going forward.--Sam Chinitz
