Sloppy Defense Results In Poor Start From Masahiro Tanaka
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka allowed five runs (three earned) over four innings against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. The New York defense committed three errors behind Tanaka on Wednesday, making the 31-year-old’s start more difficult than it should have been. Tanaka’s performance under the hood was solid with a 14% swinging-strike rate (nine swinging-strikes on his slider) and five hard-hit balls allowed, and he finishes the regular season with a 3.56 ERA. Tanaka probably won’t pitch again until the playoffs where he’s likely to draw a tough matchup against either the Twins or the White Sox, but he should still be a serviceable fantasy starter going forward.
