Kyle Higashioka Encroaching On Gary Sanchez’s Playing Time
4 years agoNew York Yankees catcher Kyle Higashioka drew the start at catcher Thursday over Gary Sanchez, even with left-hander Jordan Montgomery on the mound. Higashioka has become Gerrit Cole’s personal catcher as of late, but manager Aaron Boone made it clear that Higashioka may be seeing more time behind the dish heading into the postseason. While the club’s ERA is nearly a run lower with Higashioka catching, Sanchez’s offensive struggles (.143/.241/.374) also undoubtedly factor into the decision. Neither is particularly appealing in season-long formats over the weekend, but come the postseason, Higashioka’s low price tag may allot him some sizable DFS appeal.
