Jon Gray Will Remain Starter Heading Into 2021
4 years agoColorado Rockies right-handed pitcher Jon Gray will open the 2021 year as a candidate for the club’s starting rotation, rather than a possible shift into relief, manager Bud Black reiterated Saturday. Gray was mashed to the tune of a 6.69 ERA this year across eight starts, having also led the National League with 98 earned runs allowed back in 2018. But sandwiched around those two years was a 3.67 ERA (20 starts) in ‘17 and 3.84 ERA (25 starts) in ‘19. For his career, Gray averages 9.2 K/9 and has made all of one appearance out of the bullpen. So despite his high velocity on his fastball, the Rockies expect to give Gray all the chances available to start, which makes him a DFS-only candidate out of the gates in ‘21.
