4 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton (abdomen) was listed as a limited practice participant had there been an on-field practice Monday. Newton was originally questionable to play during Sunday's win over the Chargers, but was able to suit up, meaning that his placement back on the injury report is likely maintenance-related. The Patriots have just three days to prepare for the Rams on Thursday, making Newton's window to take the field constrained. Despite the 45-0 nature of the team's Week 13 win, Newton threw for a season-low 69 passing yards, marking the second straight week that he has been below 100 yards passing. The combination of injury, short week, and tough matchup against a tenacious Rams Defense means that Newton can stay out of the overwhelming majority of season-long lineups at this stage. Jarrett Stidham would likely take over under center should things trend in the wrong direction for Newton in the coming days.--Jesse Borek
