ANALYSIS: It's not that we're in love (no pun intended) with Cleveland, but you always have to go after young players in bad teams. The Cavs are precisely that, a bad team headed to another high-lottery pick that's going to be forced into giving their recently-drafted assets a lot of run to know what they have in tow. Enter Darius Garland.
As a rookie, the former Vanderbilt star played 30.9 minutes per night, though he shot just 40.1 percent from the floor, averaging 12.3 points per game. He finished in the 16th percentile in points per possession, in large part because he scored 0.876 points per possession around the basket, which ranked in the eighth percentile.
I bring this up because I think Garland has to improve some. He's a talented player. His incredibly poor offensive performance as a rookie can't be repeated this year. (I mean...it can be, but we're staying positive here.) The worst case scenario with Garland (assuming you make him your final pick) is you end dropping him in a few weeks. The best case scenario is you get improved play from his rookie year, which could lead to something like 15 points and 4.5 assists per contest, plus a steal per game and a couple of threes each night. At his current ADP, I'm betting on that upside.
