San Francisco Gives Jimmy Garoppolo A Vote Of Confidence
4 years agoSan Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that he "believe[s] Jimmy Garoppolo will be our quarterback next year," the latest vote of confidence from the organization after an ankle injury has kept Garoppolo out since Week 8. Without Garoppolo in the mix, the 49ers have struggled to find a suitable successor. Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard have filled in but haven't done enough to help lead the team back to the postseason just a year removed from a Super Bowl appearance. Garoppolo signed a big contract extension in February of 2018 to be the long-term solution at QB, a move that Shanahan still believes in. Garoppolo is probably best off staying with the 49ers, who have an exciting crop of pass-catchers from tight end George Kittle to rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel that he can rely upon next year should he remain the starter.
