Mitch Moreland Signs One-Year Deal With Oakland
4 years agoThe Oakland Athletics and first baseman Mitch Moreland agreed to a one-year Major League contract, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Moreland adds a left-handed bat to a largely right-handed A's lineup and figures to get most of his at-bats as a designated hitter while also filling in occasionally for Matt Olson at first base. The veteran had a solid 2020 season posting a .265 batting average with 10 homers and 29 RBI in 42 games between the Red Sox and Padres. Moreland will turn 35 this season, but a 14.4 percent barrel rate and a 0.47 BB/K ratio last year are in line with his career averages so there hasn't been a measurable decline in his skill-set. Expect Moreland to bat in the .250 range with a chance at 20 homers and plenty of run and RBI chances in a good A's lineup. First base is a deep position, but Moreland has value in AL-only leagues and those that utilize a corner infield slot.
