Sean Murphy Reports To A's Camp
4 years agoOakland Athletics catcher Sean Murphy (lung) reported to camp with the rest of the pitchers and catchers. Murphy, who had offseason surgery to repair a collapsed lung, told manager Bob Melvin, "I feel great right now," and is expected to be back by Opening Day. Melvin told reporters last week the hope is Murphy can do drills this week and hopefully play in Spring Training games toward the middle of March. The 26-year-old backstop is an exciting sleeper at catcher after blasting seven homers and scoring 21 runs in last year's shortened campaign. Murphy batted only .233 but posted a .364 on-base percentage thanks to an elite 17.1 percent walk rate. Murphy is a strong value as the ninth catcher off the board on average in fantasy drafts.
