4 years agoColorado Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers is gunning for the starting job at second base this spring. Third baseman Nolan Arenado was traded to the Cardinals during the offseason, so the plan would be for Ryan McMahon to move over to third, which would leave an opening at second base. "There has been no explicit decree from the Rockies that second base will be his. But Rodgers sees opportunity at second, and encouragement and confidence surround him," Thomas Harding noted in an article on MLB.com. Rodgers, who was drafted as a shortstop, worked on his footwork and pivot technique this offseason in anticipation of a possible move to second. "I'm relaxed, I'm smooth," the former top prospect said on Tuesday. "You haven't seen me be me. I'm ready to be me." Multiple shoulder injuries and a hamstring issue have stymied the start of his professional career. He's compiled a .196/.235/.227 batting line with no home runs and nine RBI over his first 102 plate appearances between 2019 and 2020. The former first-round pick is worth a late-round dart throw in fantasy drafts, especially if he earns everyday at-bats at Coors Field.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
