4 years agoMinnesota Twins pitcher Lewis Thorpe showed increased fastball velocity during a live batting practice session at Twins camp. Thorpe was clocked at 93 MPH after posting just an 89.7 MPH mark last year. The Australian left-hander made getting stronger a focus of his offseason, as he showed up to camp more muscular, and with a revitalized mentality, after pitching to a 6.06 ERA in 16.1 innings pitched in 2020. Thorpe was ranked as the organization's number-11 prospect in 2019, as he showed elite-level strikeout ability in the minor leagues- and briefly in the majors. The 25-year-old won't make the starting rotation and may end up in Triple-A since he has a fourth Minor League option. Still, he's a name to keep an eye on as a candidate for innings in 2021- as the back-end of the Twins' rotation is not without its health concerns.--Tim Capurso
