4 years agoSan Diego Padres pitching prospect MacKenzie Gore fanned three in a simulated game over the weekend, taking a positive step towards his impending big league debut. His first spring training start comes Thursday against the Texas Rangers. Despite myriad injuries to the rotation in 2020, the Friars top prospect arm did not receive a call-up. At the alternate site, the 22-year-old struggled with command and mechanical issues but shined on Saturday, flashing a high-90s heater with just one free pass across seven batters. With four rotation spots locked up and a versatile pitching corps, Gore is a longshot to muscle his way onto the roster. Whether he breaks camp with the Padres, baseball's No. 6 prospect retains tantalizing upside as a frontline start with four legitimate pitches. Fantasy-wise, Gore is a prized dynasty piece but is just a stash for rosters with deep benches in redraft formats.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
