Dereck Rodriguez Shaky In Monday's Start
4 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Dereck Rodriguez was hit hard in Monday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Cactus League play. The 28-year-old gave up two runs on four hits with one strikeout over two innings of work. He allowed a pair of singles in the first frame before surrendering a double and a home run to DJ Peters in the second inning. D-Rod signed a minor league contract with the Rockies during the offseason after spending time with the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers during the 2020 campaign. He impressed during his rookie season with the Giants back in 2018 but has struggled to make much of an impact since then. He's sporting a 12-15 record, 4.27 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 162:75 K:BB ratio over 221 1/3 career innings. His profile probably won't play well at Coors Field, and he is a long shot to make the Rockies Opening Day roster.
