Andrew Vaughn Goes Yard In Second Spring Game
4 years agoChicago White Sox first baseman/designated hitter prospect Andrew Vaughn went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, a home run, three RBI and one walk on Tuesday versus the Texas Rangers. Vaughn has now played in two spring games and has drawn three walks. The slugger is one of the top prospects in all of baseball and with Edwin Encarnacion no longer with the club, the early favorite to replace him is Vaughn. Vaughn has only played one season of professional baseball and between rookie ball and Single-A, the prospect hit .278 with six home runs and 36 RBI. Vaughn projects as a power hitter with good patience at the next level and would be another strong option in an already powerful White Sox lineup. The White Sox like many teams have been known to delay the arbitration process, but that could change if Vaughn agrees to a contract extension before Opening Day, a move that the White Sox have used with many of their top players like outfielders Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez in recent years. Vaughn is off to a nice start in a small sample size and managers should expect that he will have a sizable role for a competitive White Sox team in 2021, but he may not be on the roster right out of the gate due to service time.
