LJay Newsome Struggles In Spring Debut
4 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Ljay Newsome didn't have his best stuff Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits to the Cubs, with one strikeout and one walk. His outing could have looked considerably worse if not for some sparkling defense by Jake Fraley in right field. Newsome looks to be eighth or ninth on the current depth chart at starting pitcher in Seattle, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him make starts for the Mariners this year, as Seattle is deploying a six-man rotation and innings may be in high demand across the league. Despite occasional usefulness in 2020, Newsome is safely off the fantasy radar for the start of 2021 and should go undrafted, but he could be a matchup play in spot duty as the year goes on.
