4 years agoColorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles in Monday's Cactus League game vs the Cincinnati Reds. Diaz is now 4-for-10 this Spring with a pair of doubles and one RBI. It's a small sample size but a .400/.400/.600 batting line is a solid clip for the 30-year-old backstop. He's not guaranteed to open the year as the Rockies starting catcher but getting off to a hot start this spring will certainly help his chances. Fellow catcher Dom Nunez, who is also fighting for the job, is 3-for-8 so far this spring. Diaz put up a .727 OPS in the 15 games in which he started last year for the Rockies and holds the experience edge over Nunez. This battle is worth keeping an eye on as the regular season approaches because whoever ends up winning the job will carry some late-round value in fantasy leagues.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
