Jake Fraley No Longer The Favorite To Start In Left Field
4 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Jake Fraley entered camp as the favorite to be the starting left fielder on opening day, but the opportunity may be slipping away from him. First it was the phenom Jarred Kelenic who seemed likely to overtake Fraley, but since Kelenic went down with an injury, Taylor Trammell has now emerged as the favorite. Trammell has four hits in eleven at bats, all of which have gone for extra base hits, while Fraley has struggled through 11 hitless at-bats with six strikeouts. He has walked three times, but also been thrown out stealing on two occasions, with no successes. If this continues, Fraley seems ticketed for a bench role, and his opportunities will diminish even further come late April, when Kelenic is likely to be called up.
