J.P. Crawford Looking For More Power in 2021
4 years agoSeattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford showed off a vastly improvement glove in 2020, but this year he's looking to shore up his power game as well. Last year, Crawford's strikeout rate dropped to 16.8 percent, six percent lower than the previous year, but the contact he made didn't often go for extra bases. In fact, his barrel rate for 2020 was only 1.8 percent, among the worst in the majors. To rectify that, Crawford has bulked up, putting on ten pounds of weight, and made swing adjustments to be shorter to the ball. There's a big drop off after the top fantasy shortstops, but Crawford could be putting himself into consideration for the next tier while only costing fantasy mangers a late round pick. Keep an eye to see if his power starts to play in spring training.
