4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco will build up his strength through live batting practices as opposed to Grapefruit League games, according to manager Luis Rojas. The team would rather have the 33-year-old ramp up in the controlled environment of batting practice before getting him reps in actual games. Carrasco was a late arrival at camp this spring because he had to undergo additional medical tests due to his 2019 battle with leukemia. The good news is that Rojas said this plan "won't make a difference in terms of Carrasco's readiness for Opening Day," but he offered no timetable for when we'd see him pitch in the Grapefruit League. He's off to a bit of a slow start but it sounds like he's in no danger of missing Opening Day. It's worth keeping tabs on if you've already drafted Carrasco in your fantasy league or were planning to. He regained his old form last season with the Indians when he put up a stellar 2.91 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 82:27 K/BB ratio over 68 innings.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
