Chi Chi Gonzalez Allows One Run Over Three Innings
4 years agoColorado Rockies pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez picked up the win in Wednesday's 11-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Cactus League play. Gonzalez scattered four hits over his three innings with one punch out. The only run he gave up was courtesy of a Carson Kelly solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. The 29-year-old RHP is battling for the fifth rotation spot in Colorado this year and stands a fighting chance to earn it. He's compiled a 4.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and two strikeouts through six innings this spring. He struggled mightily with the Rockies last year with a 6.86 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, and an ugly 16:10 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings. Colorado eventually optioned him to their alternate site in September of 2020 and brought him back this offseason on a minor-league deal. Whether he makes the starting rotation or not, he's not someone that should be considered in fantasy.
