Austin Gomber Fans Five Over Three Innings On Wednesday
4 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Austin Gomber pitched well in Wednesday's Cactus League start against the San Diego Padres. The southpaw allowed no runs on three hits with a pair of walks and five strikeouts over three innings pitched. It wasn't the typical star-studded Padres lineup, as they were missing Fernando Tatis Jr. and Wil Myers, among others, but it was another impressive spring outing for the 27-year-old. Gomber now has a 0.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB over seven innings in Cactus League play. He pitched well for the Cardinals last year as well, when he put up a 1.86 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 27:15 K:BB ratio over 29 innings (four starts). He's well on his way to earning a rotation spot for the Rockies and is an intriguing late-round flyer in deeper fantasy leagues. He'll be making half of his starts in Coors Field and has trouble with walks, but he was the centerpiece of the Nolan Arenado trade, and that's worth something.
