Tampa Bay Tabs Tyler Glasnow For Opening Day Start
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow will get the ball for the team's Opening Day contest on April 1 versus Miami, marking his first career Opening Day start. Glasnow piled up an elite 38.3 percent strikeout rate last year, buoyed by his 96.9 mph average fastball velocity. He'll be an enormously appealing season-long fantasy asset with a full season ahead of him, but the righty has never thrown more than 111 2/3 frames in his big league career. While his raw stuff jumps off the page as elite, he has posted an ERA south of 4.00 just once in parts of five Major League campaigns. The Rays rotation is expected to also feature Ryan Yarbrough, Chris Archer, Rich Hill and Michael Wacha, with the team's creative plans potentially tweaking the staff and their usage as the year goes on.
