4 years agoBoston Red Sox utility man Danny Santana (foot) was hospitalized earlier in the week due to a foot infection, an ailment which has now been cleared up. Santana was allowed to leave the hospital Wednesday after receiving stitches, but his timeline for a return to game action has been pushed back. Santana appeared in just one Grapefruit League contest and went 0-for-2 with a run scored. Expected to nab a bench role with the Red Sox when healthy due to his positional versatility and offensive upside stemming from a breakout 2019 campaign (.857 OPS), Santana's Opening Day roster hopes have certainly taken a step back. Marwin Gonzalez can be seen as Boston's primary fill-in without Santana available for the time being.--Jesse Borek
