Boston Names Eduardo Rodriguez As Opening Day Starter
4 years agoBoston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez has been tabbed as the club's Opening Day starter for April 1 versus the Orioles. Rodriguez missed the entire 2020 season after dealing with severe complications stemming from COVID-19, which included myocarditis. The ailment makes Rodriguez something of an unknown heading into the new year, although the Red Sox have not announced any specific restrictions pertaining to his workload. In Rodriguez's lone full season of production, he finished sixth in American League Cy Young Award voting in 2019, compiling 213 strikeouts over 203 1/3 frames. Currently the 81st-ranked starter coming off the board in season-long formats, those eyeing early-season production could take a flier on Rodriguez toward the back end of drafts.
