Tampa Bay Expects Ji-Man Choi To Miss Opening Day
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays first baseman/designated hitter Ji-Man Choi (knee) is set to begin the season on the injured list due to right knee inflammation. Choi appears ready to resume baseball activities in the coming days, but that would not give him enough time to ramp up for the start of the year. Without Choi in the mix, Yandy Diaz and Mike Brosseau would figure to handle the vast majority of playing time at first. Choi burst onto the national scene during the Rays' run to the World Series last year, as the left-handed hitter posted a .412 on-base percentage across 18 games. With Tampa Bay likely to platoon at first when given the chance, Choi holds deep season-long value only, yet remains an appealing DFS play once he returns to the active roster.
