4 years agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sonny Gray (back) was able to throw a side session on Saturday. Gray was shut down about a week ago with a mid-back injury- though he was able to play catch on Wednesday before ramping up to throwing the session this past weekend. Manager David Bell said that it's a great sign, though the team doesn't want to rush him back- and that they feel good about their options. Gray is still expected to start the year on the 10-day Injured list, though he may end up missing just one turn in the rotation instead of two. The 30-year-old projects as a solid SP2 in 2021 after posting a 3.07 ERA with a 29.8 percent strikeout rate in two seasons with the Reds.--Tim Capurso
