Daulton Jefferies Making Case For Fifth Rotation Spot
4 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Daulton Jefferies fired four innings of shutout baseball on Tuesday against the Rockies as he makes his case to be the fifth starter to begin the season. Mike Fiers (hip) and A.J. Puk are also in the running for the job, but Fiers has been injured and Puk has struggled with his command this spring. Jefferies, on the other hand, has masterful control having posted a 93:9 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 79 minor league innings in 2019. He's carried that dominance to Cactus League play where he has 20 strikeouts against three walks in 13 innings. The 25-year-old righty is a must-roster prospect in dynasty leagues and is an intriguing prospect for redraft leagues when he does get the call to the Majors.
