Fantasy Basketball Night In Review: Saturday, March 27

Welcome to the RotoBaller NBA Recap. In this feature, we will highlight a few key fantasy basketball takeaways from the games played during last night's slate. These viewpoints can be both positive and negative and will hopefully help to provide insight into different roster moves you should consider making based on trends and statistical nuggets from around the Association.

Fantasy basketball has a lot of moving pieces with all the different scoring settings that are possible to play under, so I will always do my best to spotlight where players gain or lose value in certain game types. For the sake of simplicity and consistency, every time I mention Fantasy Points in these articles I will be using DraftKings' scoring system, which goes as follows: 1*PTS, 0.5*3PM, 1.25*RBD, 1.5*AST, 2*STL, 2*BLK, -0.5*TO. On top of that, bonus points are awarded for Double-Doubles (+1.5) and Triple-Doubles (+3), only one per player at a time.

Without further ado, let's get right into the latest slate of games from the 2021 season and try to figure out how to take advantage of what we saw transpire.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers received five total writing awards and 13 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, tops in the industry! Dwight Howards seems to be addicted to getting ejected after pulling the feat on back-to-back games for the Sixers; Jazz and Clippers win their fifth-consecutive game each

The Clippers hosted the Sixers in L.A. yesterday, and all Dwight Howard could do was getting ejected once more, after doing so a couple of days ago in the very same place, only against the Lakers. Nothing remarkable there, though. What is more interesting was the Clippers getting their fifth straight W, as it put them just 0.5 games behind Phoenix for the second place in the West, and 1.5 games ahead of the 4th-place Lakers. Tobias Harris was good for Philly, but Ben Simmons didn't step up to cover for Joel Embiid's injury, and the longer it takes him to return the more games these Sixers will drop.

Speaking of winning streaks, Utah defeated Memphis yesterday thanks to a great game by 6MOY leading candidate Jordan Clarkson, and the Jazz sit now at five wins straight while still commanding the Western Conference having just 11 losses in 45 games and a 3.5-game padding over the 2nd-place Suns. Easy peasy for Utah on Saturday, as both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell only logged 28 minutes tops.

  • Another day, another triple-double for Russell Westbrook. Russ put up a 19-19-10 line in a game in which Bradley Beal just played 21 minutes and was forced out in the third quarter after sustaining the injury--supposedly--in the second Q. We'll see what's the deal with Beal, but it doesn't look like it will keep him out for long.
  • Another injured body, this one on the Knicks: Mitchell Robinson went down after just 6 minutes of playing time suffering a fractured right foot. This could have a much greater impact on the season ROS, as New York might miss Robinson for a longer span. That's why the Knicks are looking at bought-out Gorgui Dieng to bolster their paint presence. Nerlens Noel (the replacement for now) is available in 55% of Yahoo leagues, and Dieng is available for free in virtually every league (2% rostership).
  • Not the strongest of debuts by Nikola Vucevic for the Bulls, as he could only put up a 21-9-3 line in 32 minutes. Good, not great for what we know him for. Much better outing by Thad Young on an efficiency-basis, putting up a nice 10-6-9 line in 22 minutes, and by Coby White reaching a 13-5-4-1-1 lowly-stuffed line in 26 minutes.
  • The Thunder announced that they're shutting Al Horford down for the remainder of the season. That means Moses Brown is about to big-time eat. Just peep at yesterday's line: 21-23 dub-dub hitting 8-of-10 FGA and 5-of-8 freebies. It's going to be hard to find Brown in the WW if you don't act right now and try to acquire him before it's too late. The rostership is already up at 55% and that mark will sky-rocket in no time, believe me.
  • The Bucks dropped one against the Knicks, but Antetokounmpo was unexpectedly great on Saturday. Thanasis Antetokounmpo, that is. The little brother put up a great 23-10-5-2 double-double in 35 minutes of playing time. No surprise in Milwaukee losing this one, though, as its starting lineup was comprised of Sam Merrill, Axel Toupane, Jordan Nwora, Thanasis, and Brook Lopez. Uh, oh.
  • Second start in a row for Robert Williams III as Boston's center after the deadline, in back-to-back nights. The production, contrary to haters' expectations, is still sublime even on a larger dosage of minutes. RoWill has fallen short of dub-dubbing by just one rebound and one point in the last two respectively, but his lines went up to 7-9-6-2-5 and 9-14-2-2-2, which isn't too far from fantasy greatness to the tune of 41 and 37 FP, or a per-minute production of 1.53 and 1.42 FP/min. Bonkers stuff. Jump on Williams while you still (66% rostership in all of Yahoo leagues) can!
