Dustin May Wins Fifth Rotation Spot In LA
4 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers RHP Dustin May has won the fifth rotation spot, according to manager Dave Roberts. Roberts told reporters on Monday that May will begin the year as team's fifth starter as LHP David Price and RHP Tony Gonsolin will both provide some bullpen length and pitch in high-leverage situations. May was locked in a battle with the aforementioned pitchers all spring but ended up winning the final rotation spot with a stellar Cactus League. He finished Spring Training with a 2.37 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 21:7 K/BB ratio over 19 innings. The Dodgers have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to their pitching staff and May is just 23-years-old so he's going to have his innings limited this season. Both Price and Gonsolin will see plenty of starts throughout the year so they'll have fantasy value as streamers and DFS plays. Fantasy managers that selected May earlier this offseason in their drafts have to be feeling good about themselves right now. He would have fantasy upside regardless of if he won the rotation spot or not but he'll pay immediate dividends now that the job is his.
