4 years agoToronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire failed to make the club's opening day roster and was designed for assignment. He had been beaten out for the backup role by Alejandro Kirk. Danny Jansen is expected to see the majority of playing time behind the dish. McGuire, known as a glove-first catcher, hit just .158 this spring but two of his three hits went for extra bases and he had a solid BB-K of 6-5 which could interest other teams. He hit just .073 for the Jays last season in 19 games and was optioned to the alternate training site in early September. Toronto acquired veteran minor league catcher Juan Graterol from the Los Angeles Angels yesterday, likely in preparation for the roster move.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
