Tommy Pham Leading Off On Opening Day
4 years agoSan Diego Padres manager Jayce Tingler told a local radio show that outfielder Tommy Pham will start in center field and bat leadoff on Opening Day against the Arizona Diamondbacks. With Trent Grisham (hamstring) on the IL, the expectation was either Pham or utilityman Jurickson Profar would play the 8. The 33-year-old Pham endured an injury-riddled 2020 with just a .624 OPS, three homers and six steals in 125 plate appearances. He had recorded three straight seasons with double digit dingers and stolen bases prior. Atop a loaded lineup, the Padres have faith in a bounceback season and Pham is a solid investment as an OF3. Facing D-Back southpaw Madison Bumgarner on Thursday, he should be a popular DFS play with a .895 career OPS against lefties.
