Athletics Option A.J. Puk and Daulton Jefferies To Alternate Site
4 years agoOakland Athletics pitching prospects A.J. Puk and Daulton Jefferies did not make the Opening Day roster and have been optioned to the alternate training site. This likely means Cole Irvin will be the club's fifth-starter to begin the season. Jefferies turned heads in Spring Training pitching to a 1.50 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and racking up 24 strikeouts in 18 innings. He'll be with the A's at some point this season and could be worth adding in deeper leagues when that happens. Puk is the team's number-two prospect but has only pitched 36 2/3 innings since 2017. The lefty missed time after Tommy John surgery and had shoulder surgery last season. He pitched to a 5.87 ERA in only 7 2/3 Cactus League innings. Fantasy managers don't need to use a precious roster spot on Puk while he's in the minors.
