4 years agoToronto Blue Jays hurler Julian Merryweather wasn't officially announced as a member of the 26-man roster until this morning. Hours later, he recorded the first save of his career as the Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 3-2 in 10 innings. The hard-throwing right-hander needed just 11 pitchers to strike out the side in the final inning of the game. Merryweather appeared in just two official games during the spring due to a back injury but there was no rust showing in this contest. Last season for the Jays, the 29-year-old appeared in eight games and posted a K-BB of 15-6 in 13 innings. He flashed a 99 mph fastball as well as his slider and his changeup during his first appearance of the season.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
