4 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman/outfielder Whit Merrifield had an excellent day at the plate in a 14-10 Opening Day win over the Rangers. Merrifield collected three hits- including his first homer of the 2021 season- while scoring and driving in a pair of runs. The veteran hitter was a Statcast dynamo on Thursday, as all three of his hits had exit velocities of 100 MPH or greater. While the Royals can't be expected to manufacture 14 runs every game, Merrifield should certainly get plenty of scoring chances at the top of the lineup once again in 2021, in addition to good production in the batting average and stolen base categories.--Tim Capurso
