4 years agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried tossed five innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits and a pair of walks while fanning eight batters in Thursday's 3-2 Opening Day loss to the Phillies. Fried didn't factor into the decision. Normally more of a ground-ball pitcher, the 27-year-old brought the swing-and-miss stuff to the table, inducing 18 whiffs, with five of his strikeouts coming via the breaking ball. Fried is due for some regression this year in the ERA department but should remain a solid second or third starter for fantasy purposes, especially if the strikeout stuff he showed on Thursday is the beginning of a trend. Up next for Fried is a matchup against the Nationals. He earned a no-decision against them last year, pitching five innings of three-run ball with four strikeouts.--Tim Capurso
