4 years agoChicago White Sox catcher Yermin Mercedes will play the role of designated hitter and bat eighth versus the Los Angeles Angels and Andrew Heaney on Friday. Mercedes is one of three catchers on the White Sox and he saw one at-bat in 2020 going 0-for-1. Mercedes, 28, impressed with a .317 batting average to go along with 23 home runs and 80 RBI in 95 games between and Double-A and Triple-A in 2019. Mercedes replaces fellow catcher Zack Collins in the lineup. Mercedes should remain on the waiver wire for now, but could useful if he carves out a more permanent role for the White Sox.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
