4 years agoChicago White Sox catcher Yermin Mercedes continued his hot start to the season on Saturday versus the Los Angeles Angels. Coming off of a 5-for-5 season debut on Friday, Mercedes had three hits in his first three at-bats before flying out to outfielder Mike Trout in the bottom of the eighth inning. Among the highlights for Mercedes was his first career home run. The catcher would finish the game 3-for-4 with a pair of a RBI. Mercedes has now been the designated hitter for two straight games and with the way he is hitting right, Mercedes should be expected to remain in the lineup. With outfielder Eloy Jimenez (pectoral) sidelined for 5-6 months and first baseman/designated hitter Andrew Vaughn shifting over to left field, Mercedes has a good shot to become the teams everyday designated hitter. The sample size is small, but managers in deeper leagues should strongly consider picking up Mercedes due to his ability to hit the ball in one of the best lineups in the league.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
