4 years agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Rafael Montero picked up his first save of the 2021 season in a 4-0 win over the Giants on Saturday. After blowing a save on Opening Day, Montero got another chance, entering the game in the eighth inning with two men on- and working out of the jam before pitching an easy ninth. It was encouraging to see manager Scott Servais go right back to the 30-year-old to close out the game, a good sign for his value moving forward. Montero is a low-end closer, though he certainly has the potential to rack up double-digit saves, as ong as he hangs onto the ninth-inning gig.--Tim Capurso
