4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Taylor Widener made his first career start on Sunday, where he held the San Diego Padres scoreless over six innings in a 3-1 victory. Widener allowed just three hits and three walks while striking out five, as he earned the win and the quality start. He gained a spot in Arizona's rotation with Zac Gallen on the injured list, and he looked good in Spring Training where he posted a 3.68 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings of work. Widener will get a couple more turns through the rotation before Gallen returns, and if he continues to pitch like this, he could very well bump someone else out and earn a permanent spot in the rotation. His next scheduled start will come on Saturday against the Reds, in which he will be an interesting streaming option in most formats.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
