Andrew Vaughn Won't Get Regular Playing Time
4 years agoChicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa addressed the media on Thursday and said that first baseman/outfielder Andrew Vaughn is not part of the "core" of everyday players. La Russa also said that he has noticed the rookie pressing and wants to give him a break. It's a bit confusing that the White Sox would choose now with shortstop Tim Anderson (hamstring), outfielder Eloy Jimenez (pectoral) and outfielder Billy Hamilton (hamstring) all on the injured list to avoid giving Vaughn at-bats. Utility man Leury Garcia is also dealing with leg tightness and is day-to-day. Many would think that the logical choice would be to continue getting Vaughn in the lineup on most days, but La Russa doesn't seem to want to give the rookie many at-bats to start the season. If the White Sox don't plan to use Vaughn on an everyday basis, it would make sense for them to send their top hitting prospect to the minor leagues and allow him to get everyday at-bats when the season starts. Outfielder Nick Williams will be in the lineup over Vaughn on Thursday and he will bat seventh. Williams is a former top prospect and the career journeyman that can be ignored in all formats for now. Vaughn should be held onto in dynasty leagues and managers in deeper redraft leagues may still want to remain patient and hope that La Russa comes around to the rookie as an everyday player.
