BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 21% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Yimi Garcia entered the 2021 season in a primary set-up role for the Marlins, backing up closer Anthony Bass. Garcia has gotten off to a solid start down in Miami, appearing in four games and only allowing one run over four innings while striking out three. He's already collected two holds, while aformentioned closer Anthony Bass has already blown two saves. Bass has been atrocious, allowing six earned runs in two-and-a-third innings, while allowing two home runs and only striking out two.
Although Bass was just given the foreboding "vote of confidence" by manager Don Mattingly, a change could be on the horizon, and Yimi Garcia is the most likely to benefit from a switch in roles. Garcia has quietly been an excellent reliever for years, flying under the radar in the Dodgers bullpen before coming over to Miami for the 2020 season and dominating to the tune of a .60 ERA with 11.40 strikeouts per nine innings in the shortened season.
For his career, Garcia has been very strong at limiting baserunners, posting an outstanding rate of 5.08 strikeouts per walk and an xOBP that has regularly sat above the 90th percentile. Garcia does tend to be a fly-ball pitcher, but the large confines of his home stadium make that more manageable. The presence of Dylan Floro is a threat to Garcia's eventual ascension to the closer role, but Garcia is already a solid value in leagues that reward holds, and seems primed to take the step up into the closer ranks.
