Austin Gomber Takes Tough-Luck Loss On Friday
4 years agoColorado Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber took the loss on Friday against the Giants as he allowed two earned runs on just one hit with five strikeouts and four walks over 6 1/3 innings in a 3-1 loss in San Francisco. After issuing seven free passes in his Rockies' debut last week, Gomber was once again done in by the walks. He held the Giants to just one hit in the outing but walked Darin Ruf and Buster Posey in the bottom of the sixth and was removed from the game. His replacement, Tyler Kinney proceeded to walk Alex Dickerson before serving up a two-run double to Brandon Crawford, which closed the book on Gomber. He was saddled with the loss as the Rockies offense couldn't get anything going against crafty veteran Johnny Cueto. The 27-year-old southpaw fired 104 pitches but only 66 went for strikes. He now carries a 2.89 ERA over 9 1/3 innings this year but has a lopsided 7:11 K/BB ratio. He'll get the Dodgers on the road in his next start and is not a recommended play in that one.
