Chris Paddack Picks Up First Victory
4 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Chris Paddack collected his first win Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, tossing five innings of three-run (one earned) ball. Spotted an early lead, the 25-year-old was mostly in control despite issuing five hits and two walks, striking out four in the process. With his fastball effectiveness continuing to be a problem, Paddack needed 99 pitches to qualify for the victory. The right-hander holds a 4.15 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a poor 17 percent strikeout rate through 13 frames. Heralded for his control, Paddack's walk rate has ballooned to 10 percent this season, and unless he rediscovers the swagger from his stellar 2019 campaign, he's a matchup-based fantasy starter. He's worth a shot in his next start Tuesday at home against the Milwaukee Brewers.
