4 years agoColorado Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber pitched a quality start on Thursday when he allowed three runs on six hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts in a 7-5 loss to the Dodgers. This was arguably Gomber's best start of the season as he registered a season-best seven strikeouts and only issues two free passes after walking 11 batters over his first two starts. He had much better command of the strike zone on Thursday and scattered six hits over his six innings. Unfortunately one of those six hits was a three-run home run off the bat of the white-hot Justin Turner. Gomber left the game with the Rockies winning 5-3, so he did his job, but the Colorado bullpen coughed up the lead in the seventh. He's now put up back-to-back quality starts and owns a 3.52 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 14:13 K/BB ratio over 15 1/3 innings (three starts). He gets the Astros at home in his next turn but should probably be avoided in the high altitude.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
