4 years agoColorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple, a run scored, and two strikeouts in 4-3 loss to the Mets in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday. Jacob deGrom was dealing all afternoon, striking out nine Rockies in a row at one point, before finishing with 14 punchouts. He got Nunez to whiff twice but the 26-year-old backstop also laced an RBI triple off him in the bottom of the fifth inning. He's slashing .192/.222/.615, which isn't great, but he's also hit three home runs and drove in six over 26 at-bats. He's outperformed fellow backstop Elias Diaz, who's off to a .071/.161/.071 start over his 28 at-bats. Nunez is the future in Colorado and he could become the present very soon if Diaz continues to scuffle.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
