Lou Trivino Settling Into Closer Role For A's
4 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Lou Trivino pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Sunday and earned the win when the A's walked off in the bottom of the inning to sweep the Tigers. Trivino has been used as the closer in each of his three outings, earning two saves and pitching the top of the ninth in a tie game. On the season Trivino has made nine appearances and holds a 0.84 ERA with 10 strikeouts against four walks. Manager Bob Melvin said that the team envisioned Trivino in a closer role after Trivino's strong 2018 when he posted a 2.92 ERA with a 27.4 percent strikeout rate. The A's next series is on hold pending the Twins COVID results, but Trivino needs to be rostered in all leagues that reward saves and should be in lineups when the A's return to play.
