Rafael Montero Saves Third Game
4 years agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Rafael Montero collected his third save of the year Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After Kendall Graveman dazzled for 1 2/3 innings, Montero entered in the ninth and promptly allowed two men on base, though he induced a double play ball from Corey Seager to end it. Montero now has an equal number of saves as blown saves, though he has performed better than those totals would suggest, with a 2.89 ERA and .86 WHIP through 9 1/3 innings. While Kendall Graveman seems to have surpassed Montero as the top bullpen option in Seattle, it is clear that Montero could still receive some save opportunities when the situation allows it. Montero remains a hold on fantasy rosters, but his days could be numbered.
