Dominic Smith With Two Hits On Thursday
4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the Mets' 4-3 loss to the Cubs on Thursday. Smith had been struggling at the plate so the multiple-hit performance was a welcome sight. Smith raised his slash line on the season to a modest .250/.275/.417 over 51 plate appearances. He has just two home runs and six RBI on the season. Despite his slow start, Smith has an xBA of .338, an xSLG of .634, and an xwOBA of .445 which are all in the top seven percent of MLB. These metrics, combined with his current overall barrel rate of 14.3% (which is in the top 17% of MLB), suggest that he has been unlucky and could be on the verge of breaking out. Now hitting third consistently in the Mets' lineup, fantasy managers should continue to keep Smith active in all formats.
