4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher J.A. Happ was excellent in Friday's 2-0 win over the Pirates. Happ pitched 7 1/3 scoreless frames and didn't allow a hit until the eighth inning, striking out three with a pair of walks. The veteran left-hander didn't miss many bats but he didn't need to- he generated weak contact all night long, as his average exit velocity was 88.8 MPH. Not only was it Happ's best start yet in terms of the results, but it was also his best in terms of length and pitch count, as he had failed to make it to the fifth inning and 90 pitches in each of his previous two starts before Friday night. Happ will carry a 1.69 ERA through three starts into his next outing, scheduled for April 28 against the Indians.--Tim Capurso
