Cubs Bench Javier Baez For Second Time In Three Games
4 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez will be absent from the Cubs lineup on Monday versus the Atlanta Braves. Baez has been heating up lately and has two home runs and five RBI with a .286 batting average over his last seven games. Baez was just rested on Saturday and manager David Ross elected to go with outfielder Jake Marisnick over Baez in a crucial pinch-hit situation in the ninth inning. Ross was asked about his decision and summed it up with Baez being off. It's a curious decision as to why Baez continues to get benched and there may be more to the situation. Second baseman Nico Hoerner will replace Baez at shortstop on Monday and will be in the leadoff spot. Hoerner is 4-for-9 with three RBI since being called up last week and this will be his third straight start. Hoerner is worth keeping an eye on in deeper leagues.
